Happy New Year

Just wanted to share some projects I was working on in the past month.

But first I have to introduce my great nephew, Liam. This is the baby I made the blanket and accessories for a few months ago and my sister’s first grandchild.

I found this from a book my daughter bought me. It was done by paper piecing but I am working on a way without paper piecing the blocks. Below is a close up of one of the blocks and I decided to add a border to finish it off.

I am back and old quilt magazines

First I want to say sorry I have been off for awhile. Just couldn’t get myself to work on my blog. I pretty much been sewing to keep my mind busy. I want to dedicate this blog to my dad because without him I would be able to bring the new year posts on the old quilt mags. My dad was a collector of all things and he liked to go to auctions and flea markets. A few months ago my mom gave them to me because I liked to quilt and she didn’t need them anymore. I absolutely love these magazines. Some of them are still in publication and some not. I felt I couldn’t keep them to myself, after all someone years ago felt the need to save them and they still exist almost 30 years later. The magazines consist of Country Quilts, Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts, Quilt, Quilt World, Quilt World Omni Book, Quilter’s Newsletter, Quiltmaker, Stitch ‘n’ Sew Quilts. The earliest is from 1983 and the latest is 1988. I have to say the most ironic thing I find with these magazines is that the years correspond with the most memorable years, from graduating high school-1983 to marriage-84 and the birth of both my children-Cassie-85 & Cory-88. These make them even more special to me. With that being said the reason I mention the magazines is I thought I would share one each month. Starting in January 2012 on the 5th & 20th of each month I want to talk about the articles the patterns that are in the magazines. I am going to start with Quilter’s Newletter May 1983 on January 5th. Please mark my blog because I am going to try to make it worth your time for stopping by. Also will be posting some things I have make the last month over the next few days.

New page

I added a new page to my blog titled Projects. I is just some pictures of some completed projects that was done before my blog. I hope you enjoy looking at them.

Changed blog name

I wasn’t really thrilled with the name I originally chosen and have been thinking on changing it. I came up with sew toni. I hope everybody likes it. Of course I had to play on the word sew and include my name so what else could I choose.

Since it has been awhile since my last post I want to include a couple of things I have been working on.

My nephew and his wife are expecting their first child, a boy, due around Christmas so I made a blanket, a couple of burp cloths, and a bib.

for Liam

I also made a purse from the fabric that was on my wall from my first post.

I have several works in progress which two of my projects are quilts. One for my bed and one for my daughter, pictures later. I also learned paper piecing in the last couple days. I will post some more pictures in a few days and I will try not to wait over a month to post again.

keep sewing,

Still a work in progress

I have been at my computer for over an hour messing with adding a page to show some of my projects but I can’t get it to look the way I want it. Hopefully my daughter comes home from work in a better mood tonight than she did last night because I need her help. 🙂 Smile Cassie. I did change the front page of my blog. I figured out how to insert the background image and used a skinny lap quilt I made out of scraps from the purse I never finished. I turned out real neat except for some of the strips not lining up right but my mantra is if it is perfect then it isn’t handmade by toni.

Here is the the projects I worked on the past couple days.

The wallets are something I came up with. The larger one has 6 card pockets in the back and a separator for money or the important stuff. The front is a pocket for coins. This wallet I used velcro instead of a zipper which I think I like better. The smaller one has 3 card pockets no separator but also a coin pocket with velcro closure.

And now for my very first Dresden and I loved making this. Not sure if it was because is was the beautiful Christmas material or just Christmas in general. I used Holiday Flourish (2012) – Christmas Traditions Layer Cake for Robert Kaufman Fabrics bought from I love her daily deals and her tutorials.

That’s all for now.

Until my next post, keep sewing.

Updating my blog

I realized I didn’t put in anything under about me. Figured it out this afternoon where to put it and now it has been updated. I hope it is not two long. I tend to type like I talk (a lot). I will be adding photos and pages as I learn how to use this site. I think I will have to break down and have my daughter some short cuts though, I spent too much time searching and learning and it takes me away from sewing.

Until the next post.

My first post

I hope this works. I created this blog a few weeks ago but haven’t really done anything with it yet until a contest showed up on one of the blogs I follow,  Moda Bake shop. I think this is a great contest because I can find new blogs and new quilting/sewing virtual friends. Just want to say about my space I just moved a week ago so still a mess but with these pictures you have the general idea of where I will be doing my sewing. I haven’t been able to get up and running yet because still putting things together but I’ll bet I will be sewing this weekend. Also bear with me on my blog I am still learning on how to do this and plan to add and update it. Thanks for reading.

As you can see not a lot of stash yet just started quilting last year and space at premium right now. It doesn’t matter though I have a space to sew and I make the best of it.
